Plastic Fantastic with George Jerome

Listen Live Wednesdays at 10pm and Sundays 11am

George Jerome leads Plastic Fantastic, a vinyl record-focused show, alongside a collective of friends, DJs, and fellow record obsessives who share a deep love for music on wax. Twice a week on Wythenshawe FM, George is joined by Manon, Luke, Cliff, and Jazzy B — sometimes solo, sometimes in various combinations — as the team dig into their crates to share vinyl gems guaranteed to get your feet moving.

Plastic Fantastic - ‘A crate-digging, needle-dropping, beat-hopping journey through soul, funk, and dub to disco — to the wonderfully obscure to everything in between.’

George’s passion for radio began at an early age, when he and school friends would create their own shows by recording vinyl onto tape and speaking over the tracks using a microphone bought from Rumbelows — creating characters, writing scripts, and inventing features. Over time, this hobby developed into a deeper technical interest. He began splicing tapes, creating sound effects, and experimenting with a borrowed 4-track recorder from the school music department — learning how to reverse and manipulate sounds using the tape’s multitrack capabilities.

While George spent many years performing in bands as a keys player, his true love was always in recording, producing, and sound engineering. He honed these skills in and around Manchester in the '90s and ‘00s, sound engineering and volunteering at venues such as The Roadhouse, Beer Keller and Band on the Wall, as well as at a wide range of events across the city. Academically, he achieved a First-Class degree in music production, sound engineering, and music synthesis from Salford.

In 2018, George and good friend, Cliff Evans launched a music show on internet radio and SoundCloud — a music show, playing rare soul and talking about the records and labels - the early beginnings of what would become Plastic Fantastic. The project also featured Luke Benfield, who would go on to become a WFM regular and who introduced the show to Colin Owen. Colin kindly invited George and team to join the mighty Wythenshawe FM in November 2023.

Since then, Plastic Fantastic has found a home on Sunday mornings at 11am, delivering a solid hour of quality vinyl selections, directly following the legendary Jimmy Lambert and his Pop Explosion Show — a slot the team still proudly holds. The show has also temporarily covered Friday afternoons and now has a new late-night slot on Wednesdays from 10pm to midnight, running in parallel with the original Sunday morning session.

We’re genuinely honoured to be part of Wythenshawe FM — a wonderful station with a roster full of incredible talent lighting up the airwaves each week.

So, whether you’re a seasoned vinyl collector or just love great music, tune in and join us. Listen live: Wednesdays 10pm–12midnight & Sundays 11am–12noon

George, Manon, Luke, Cliff & Jazzy B
